Planning A Game Room

Are you thinking about adding a game room to your home? A game room is a great place to relax with family and friends, watch movies or play pool and poker tournaments.  If you are planning to add a game room remember to consider a few things before you start remodeling – which room you’ll convert, what the theme will be, organize a space and decorate.

Find an area to convert. Use any space that accommodates the type of game room you have in mind. Some people transform a garage, finish a basement or take over a guest bedroom. Your area options maybe limited depending on the type of game room you make.

Decide on a theme.  Decide on the primary use for the game room – poker, sports, pool or video games.  The theme will determine the type of furniture and equipment you purchase.  For example – a sports theme might include a bar and a large TV.

Organize the space. Whether you decide on a pinball machine or a pool table, organize the space so there is room to stand around the machine or table. An arcade game will need an electrically outlet and a pool table requires room to move around and extend the pool stick.

Select décor. The décor options for a game room are countless; you can show off your favorite sports teams or movies.  Also select sofas and chairs that are comfy especially if you plan to use the room for video games or watching sports.

What have you done to create your own game room?
